Livingston registering for K, pre-K

LIVINGSTON — Kindergarten and pre-kindergarten registration is under way for next school year, Livingston Parish school officials said.
Doyle and Live Oak Elementary schools have registration 9 a.m. to noon today for pre-K and kindergarten programs, school officials said in a statement.
Other schools accepting applications for pre-K classes include Albany Lower Elementary, French Settlement Elementary, Maurepas, South Walker Elementary and Springfield Elementary, school officials said.
Parents can register children for pre-K and kindergarten during the summer at some elementary schools, but some schools have special registration days earlier, Carla Gongre, early education curriculum coordinator, said in the statement.
She urged parents to call schools to find out the date to register. Levi Milton Elementary School had a registration day Thursday.
A child must turn 4 on or before Sept. 30, 2008, to be eligible for pre-K in the 2008-09 school year, school officials said. A child must turn 5 on or before that same date to be eligible for kindergarten.
Parents or a guardian must have the following child information for registration: original birth certificate or a certified copy, Social Security card, immunization records and proof of residency.
Some schools require four proofs of residency, so parents should check in advance, school officials said.
