People under 18 in poverty in Louisiana: Approximately 329,000

The Acadiana Outreach Center says government-funded programs that could help poor people often go underused. They include:
- LaCHIP - Insurance for children of lower-income families
- Veterans Affairs services
- Social Security insurance
- Social Security Disability insurance
