Ethics Board fines Jindal
The Louisiana Board of Ethics this morning assessed a $2,500 against Gov. Bobby Jindal and his gubernatorial campaign committee for failure to timely disclose spending done on his behalf by the state Republican Party.
The fine, which Jindal agreed to pay, settles the case and averts a public hearing into the charges.
The Ethics Board in January accused Jindal and his gubernatorial campaign committee of failing to disclose mail expenses made by the state GOP on behalf of Jindal’s campaign. The mail expenses were made between June 4 and June 28 and totaled $118, 264.
Jindal’s campaign accountant, William Potter, said at the time that a mistake was made and a new report reflecting the spending had been filed.
The $2,500 was the maximum fine the Ethics Board could assess in the case. The board approved what is known as a consent opinion without discussion in the case.
Jindal’s campaign committee has already paid the fine.
