Flood warning continues
A flood warning continues for the Mississippi River as excess water from the upper Mississippi River basin flows southward.
On Friday, the National Weather Service forecast called for the river at Baton Rouge to rise to a crest of 39 feet by April 7.
Flood stage at Baton Rouge is 35 feet, which means the river would overflow its banks if levees weren’t in place.
As of Friday morning, the river stage at Baton Rouge was at 33.5 feet.
The river would need to get to 47 feet or 48 feet to top the levee, Jim Ferguson, drainage, bridge and flood engineer for the city-parish, said.
