Adam Knapp, a key state policy official, will be the Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s next chief executive officer, chamber board members announced today.

Knapp’s selection wraps up a brisk three-month national search that led back to Baton Rouge for a successor to Stephen Moret, who announced in December he was leaving to become the state’s economic development secretary under Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Knapp led policy development for the state’s Department of Economic Development before moving to the Louisiana Recovery Authority after Hurricane Katrina. He’s now deputy director of the LRA and has state policy background going back to the Mike Foster administration.

“He made an incredible presentation to the search committee on economic policy,” said Jim Ellis, BRAC’s chairman. “He understands — as BRAC has been preaching for the last 3‰ years — that we really don’t see parish lines anymore. We see regional cooperation as being the key to our future.”
