Man jailed in Galliano carjacking
GALLIANO — A man armed with a pellet gun stole a pickup as the owner was pumping gasoline into the vehicle, Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported.
A deputy saw the truck shortly afterward, touching off a five-mile chase that reached speeds of about 120 miles an hour before the suspect was captured, said a sheriff’s news release that provided the following narrative:
The suspect, Kevin Boudreaux, 22, of Lockport, and the victim tussled briefly before Boudreaux sped off in the victim’s 2006 Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup with the gasoline hose nozzle still in the tank.
Deputy Jeremy Doucet spotted the vehicle on La. 3235 at about 1 a.m. Wednesday just south of the Golden Motors dealership in Cut Off.
Doucet pursued the pickup for almost five miles before Boudreaux ran the vehicle into a ditch near West 23rd Street in Larose and was arrested.
Boudreaux was booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center with armed robbery, aggravated flight, driving without a license and on two warrants accusing him of contempt of court.
No bond had been set as of Wednesday afternoon, and the victim retrieved his vehicle with no damage.
