AMITE — The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a Denham Springs man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl, deputies said Wednesday.

David Lee Blount, 37, 10041 Ponder Lane, Denham Springs, was booked with aggravated rape Tuesday and further charges are possible, said sheriff’s spokesman Perry Rushing.

Blount remained in Livingston Parish Prison in Livingston  Wednesday morning with bond not set, deputies said in a statement.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office and state Office of Community Services believe Blount had contact with girl within the past year, Perry said. Deputies did not disclose the youth’s name.

The aggravated rape count applies if an adult has sex with someone younger than 13, Rushing said.

If Blount is convicted, he faces possible penalties of death or life imprisonment without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence, deputies said.
