Deputies arrested a teenager and two men Monday in a pair of holdups that left one man dead and two others wounded.
Billy Moore, 25, and a 16-year-old boy were booked in the Sunday shooting death of Jesus Amilcar Gutierrez, 26, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies are not releasing the teenager’s name because he is a juvenile.
Moore, the juvenile and Troy Henderson, 26, are accused in the Saturday robbery and shootings of two Hispanic men, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. The two victims, whose names were not released, survived.
Both robberies occurred in the Gardere Lane area, where the suspects also lived.
Gutierrez, from El Salvador, was shot about 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of Mast Drive after an intruder burst into his bedroom and demanded money, Hicks has said.
Less than 24 hours earlier, two Hispanic men were wounded in an apartment in the 8000 block of Stern Avenue, around the corner from where Gutierrez was killed.
Intruders forced their way into the Stern Avenue apartment around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and demanded money, Hicks has said.
Two men were arrested hours later in the Stern Avenue shootings, but were later released from Parish Prison after deputies determined they were not involved in the shootings, Hicks said.
The arrests were based on statements from the victims and witnesses, she said. The victims and witnesses later recanted their statements.
A combination of physical evidence and statements from victims, witnesses and other Gardere Lane area residents led to the arrests Monday of Henderson, Moore and the 16-year-old boy, Hicks said. The physical evidence included two shotguns deputies found in the home of one of the suspects.
Friends and family members of the victims either could not be reached Monday or would not comment.
The juvenile was placed into juvenile detention on one count of principal to first-degree murder and two counts each of principal to attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated burglary.
Moore, 2239 Mariner Ave., was booked into Parish Prison on one count of first-degree murder and two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated burglary. East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court documents do not reflect any criminal history for Moore.
