U-High honors Soderbergh, other alumni
LSU Laboratory School honored four distinguished alumni and remembered a fifth Saturday at the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts.
Steven Soderbergh, Jeanne Jendrzejewski, Andrea Clesi McMakin, Kathryn Shaw Grigsby and Paul H. Spaht were recognized.
Soderbergh, Class of 1980 and the Academy Award-winning director of the motion picture, ‘Traffic,’ and Grigsby, class of 1965 and CEO of Hospice of Greater Baton Rouge, were inducted into the Alumni Hall of Distinction.
Jendrzejewski, a recently retired U-High swimming and cross country coach, and Spaht, Class of 1964, who practices law in Baton Rouge, were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Andrea Clesi McMakin, a former WBRZ anchor, accepted the Cub Laurel award on behalf of her son, Gathian ‘Ton’ Fertitta, Class of 1998, who was killed in a traffic accident soon after his graduation. The death spurred the ‘Buckle Up for Tony’ TV campaign.
