17-year-old Geismar boy drowns in pond
GEISMAR — A 17-year-old boy drowned Monday evening while swimming in a pond, Chief Deputy Tony Bacala of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Andrew Johnson, 14447 Dutchtown Lane, Geismar, was swimming with friends in a pond at the end of Highland Drive when he went under water, Bacala said.
His friends began searching and eventually pulled him to shore and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and continued CPR while taking him to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, but efforts to revive Johnson were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead, Bacala said.
