Meetings to report on progress of toll loop
LAFAYETTE — Three meetings are scheduled for next week to inform the public about progress on the proposed toll loop around Lafayette Parish.
The Lafayette Regional Expressway — estimated to cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars by the time it’s built— is still in the planning process.
The public meetings are part of that planning process.
Meetings have been scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the following locations:
Only about half of the construction cost for the expressway, dubbed the LRS, will be covered by tolls
The other half of the funding will have to come from a combination of federal grants, and local or state funding. The Legislature has established a Transportation Mobility Fund to provide such matching funds for large toll road projects, but the Legislature has not dedicated any revenue to put into that fund.
Texas has for years used a similar fund to raise matching funds for toll road projects.
