Coming off a year where LSU started the season ranked No. 2, won 12 games, captured a conference championship and — oh, yeah — brought Baton Rouge the Crystal Ball, it would be easy for LSU football fans to let things slip this year. The Tigers rallied from a 34-27 deficit in the final seven minutes to claim a 41-34 victory against Alabama and former LSU head coach Nick Saban. The victory put LSU in the driver's seat for the SEC West title.

For the second consecutive week, a nationally ranked opponent shredded the LSU defense and took the Tigers to the final play of the game. This time, LSU could not pull out victory as the Tigers suffered their first defeat of the season.

LSU only led Florida for 1 minute and 9 seconds, but that was enough time for the Tigers to steal a 28-24 victory against the defending national champ. The Tigers improved to 6-0 and moved up to No. 1 in the coaches' and Harris Interactive rankings one week after taking the top spot in the media rankings.

LSU-Tulane Flashbacks
LSU only needed a half of football to put away Tulane, 34-9, in the Superdome. However, that half was the second one because the Tigers struggled through the first 30 minutes. LSU improved to 5-0 in beating Tulane for the 16th consecutive time. The Tigers also moved up to No. 1 in The Associated Press for the first time since 1959.

The showdown between top-10 teams was a mismatch almost from the start as second-ranked LSU demolished ninth-ranked Virginia Tech, 48-7, in Tiger Stadium.
