PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — Coastal areas of Mississippi were under a state of emergency Monday as Tropical Storm Ida headed for the Gulf Coast. Hurricane warnings were dropped along the Gulf Coast and replaced with tropical storm warnings that stretch from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.


NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Gusty winds, high tides and heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Ida could affect southeast Louisiana’s citrus and sugar cane crops.


Gov. Bobby Jindal said today that Tropical Storm Ida’s effects in Louisiana are expected to be limited to isolated flooding and wind damage. The heaviest impact will be in the southeastern portion of the state, particularly Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes, he said during an 11 a.m. press conference.

HAMMOND — Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parish governments and the city of Slidell are offering sandbags today for residents living in low-lying areas in preparation for Tropical Storm Ida.
