Tents, fans help ease food stamp process

“She acknowledged today on the phone that there is a need for innovative thinking and cutting through bureaucratic red tape,” Williamson said of the USDA representative who will visit.

Williamson also announced that USDA did approve extending the program another seven days with the last day applications will be accepted being Sept. 23.

To help handle the volume of people applying for the program, Williamson announced that beginning today the hours at the sites with the highest volumes will be extended from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.

The sites with the highest volume include Baton Rouge, Ascension, Orleans, Jefferson and Livingston parishes,” DSS spokeswoman Cheryl Michelet said.

Other sites with less volume will open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
