New Site Features: Footer and Story Pages

  • By NICHOLAS SCHEURICH
We've made some interesting, important, and hopefully helpful changes to the website recently. In addition to releasing a new version of the site footer, we've also created a new way for stories to be read and interacted with. I've created a couple of instructional videos that should help familiarize you with these new features. These types of videos will likely become coincidental with new site feature launches, so let us know what you think in the comments!

Cheers,

Glad you like the changes, Joe! We're always working on enhancements to the website, so keep an eye on the site blog for news on updates — hopefully we'll have another video up sometime next week. Cheers!

Every locally writen (i.e. non- AP/Reuters, etc.) article on your website should be followed by a "Comments" section. Most other newspaper websites already have this, and the user coments are often just as interesting or informative as the articles. Other than this glaring ommission, you guys have a pretty decent website.

I read the site daily and my only wish is that it was actually more current that the print version of the paper. there are things on the site that seem to never go away and then things you expect immediately that don't appear for days.

The new footer is nice but the use of blurred still images for UTube video links is annoying. Just use Print Screen and then crop it for a nice crisp image to use as a link. Also, it would be great if your CSS code would make the color of visited links a bit different. I agree with the reader who suggested that the Comments feature be added.

you tube screen need to add "CC" as closed captioned or subtitle for hearing impaired because I dont understand what it say or I can not hear the sound. I suggest menu pull down to add "cc" or speaker.

I am up early in the morning - around 5 am - drink my coffee and check in at The Advocate to catch the news, check weather and traffic before work. For the past several months I cannot get onto the site early in the mornings... Is that when ya'll update? Really miss my coffee and the Advocate...
