A new Marvin Vicknair subdivision surrounding a big lake just off La. 16 south of Denham Springs has homes that offer plenty of bang for the buck.
The brick and stucco home at 11525 Mary Lee Drive, for example, is a three-bedroom layout with ceramic tile, carpet, custom stained wood cabinets and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures. Perfect for young families just starting out, the Mary Lee Drive home and others in the brand new 135-lot Lake at Gray’s Creek development brings more affordable quality to the area off Pete’s Highway near Highway 1033.
Prices start at $136,900 for homes with 1,314 square feet of living area and go up to $159,900 for homes with 1,643 square feet. Buyers can choose from among eight floor plans and have the home built on the lot of their choosing.
All of the homes in the development have double garages with electric garage door openers, and all have lots of storage space inside. Also, the front yard of each home comes with sod and landscaping. Numerous upgrades are also available.
The builder also supplies custom mailboxes for all the homes in the development, which has curbed streets, gutters and lamp post style lighting for the streets.
If you select the 1,478-square-foot home at 11525 Mary Lee Drive, half of your back yard will already have a six-foot wood privacy fence that marks the edge of the subdivision. The brick and stucco home also has vinyl soffits and fascias, as well vinyl ceilings on the front and back porches, for worry-free maintenance.
When you walk up the driveway past the home’s front-loading two-car garage and front porch, you find yourself entering the living room. Here, you’ll find carpet, a ceiling fan and a 6-light window to the front yard.
Past the living room, the home’s kitchen is next. The kitchen floors are ceramic tile that matches the tile on the counters. A long split-level counter separates the kitchen from the dining/breakfast room, where a pair of large two-light windows overlook the back porch and yard. Nearby is a walk-in pantry with wood shelves.
The Frigidaire kitchen appliances are all in black, and a double stainless sink is on the split-level counter. Appliances include a dishwasher, a glass-top electric range and oven, a microwave and a garbage disposal. The backsplashes are the same ceramic tile from the counters and floors, except the tile is cut in an interesting triangular-shaped pattern. The custom wood cabinets are darkly stained, and electricity-saving fluorescent lighting illuminates it all.
The master bedroom is in the back corner of the home and has two windows to the back yard. The carpeted bedroom has a ceiling fan to help keep the cool air from the central air-conditioning unit moving. The master bath has a soaker tub/shower combination and a large linen closet. Two cultured marble vanities, each with its own mirror and triple light fixture, are separated by the entrance to the large closet behind the bathroom wall. The closet has wood shelves and hanging rods, and a frosted glass window is at one end of the bathroom.
Meanwhile, a short hall off the living room leads to the home’s second full bath, which has one long mirror connecting the dual vanities set in a cultured marble counter. Ceramic tile flooring and lots of cabinets are in this bathroom.
Across the hall is the home’s laundry room, which leads conveniently to the double garage. The laundry room also has a broom closet with a wall of shelving for detergent and cleaners, and an electric dryer outlet.
The two other bedrooms in the home are located at the end of the hall, one to the right and one to the left. Both bedrooms have carpet floors and closets with double doors.
