Keep your Christmas trees watered throughout the holiday season.
Plant spring flowering bulbs.
Spray dormant oil on hollies, camellias, photinia, euonymous, shade and fruit trees to control scale insects.
Apply root stimulator fertilizer to newly planted trees and shrubs.
Prune crepe myrtles.
Buy bare rooted fruit and nut trees for December planting.
Transplant trees and shrubs that need to be moved within the landscape.
Plant pansies, snapdragons and other cool season annuals.
Have a Holly Jolly Christmas!
Week 1
Treat gardens and beds to eliminate nut grass.
Prepare Christmas shopping lists for visits to the garden center.
Irrigate Camellias and Sasanquas to insure development of the flower buds.
Week 2
Fertilize cool season annuals to encourage foliage and bloom development.
Plant spring flowering bulbs, tulips, etc.
Remove plants that continue to under-perform.
Week 3
Run power equipment completely out of gas before storage and repair as needed.
Apply mulch around shallow rooted trees, shrubs and bedding plants for freeze protection.
Don’t forget that garden books make great last minute Christmas gift ideas.
Week 4
Plan changes in the landscape for more color, lower maintenance, etc.
Prepare rose beds for January planting.
