Keep fire ants under control by using bait type fire ant killers.
Continue to chill spring flowering bulbs such as tulip, hyacinth, and crocus.
Fertilize cool season annuals to keep them actively growing.
Quarantine houseplants for a few days that are being reintroduced to the indoors.
Mow, edge, trim and shape plants that have entered dormancy for a pleasant appearance all winter.
Plant trees and shrubs now for well-established plants next spring.
Plant rye grass for a green lawn all winter.
Don’t forget to water during dry spells in the winter.
Plant Texas bluebonnets and other spring flowering perennials this month.
Week 1
Consider snapdragon to add color to a bright area of the yard.
Plant bluebonnets for a spectacular spring bloom.
Shape shrubs for the dormant season but avoid pruning spring flowering shrubs.
Week 2
Prepare beds for planting spring flowering bulbs.
Groom potted plants and eliminate any insects before moving them inside.
Remove fallen leaves from the lawn to avoid damage to the turf.
Week 3
Plant anemone and ranunculus in a bright area for spring blooms.
Collect dried flowers, evergreen boughs and seasonal berries for decorating.
Collect and remove litter from roses, fruit trees, and vegetable gardens.
Week 4
Mow winter rye grass 1 ½" to 2". Don’t scalp it.
Plant new trees and shrubs now so the plants will be established by spring.
Shop for poinsettias and other seasonal plants as well as Christmas trees.
