Harvest pumpkins for Halloween leaving at least three inches of stem attached.
Plant pansies for winter blooms.
Plant trees and shrubs.
As temperatures permit, begin spraying with dormant oil.
Keep mowing your lawn at the proper height until it goes dormant.
Groom perennial gardens.
Refrigerate spring flowering bulbs.
Spray roses for powdery mildew.
Winterize your greenhouse.
Watch turf grasses for outbreaks of brown patch disease.
Week 1
Sow wild flower seeds in anticipation of spring blooms.
Plant cool season vegetables for winter-long harvest.
Trap and relocate squirrels in an effort to save your pecan crop.
Week 2
Build or enlarge a compost heap for falling leaves.
Fertilize holly and nandina with super-phosphate for better berry production.
Watch for brown patch disease in the lawn and treat as needed.
Week 3
Groom ferns by removing entire fronds if they’re blemished.
Caulk and patch any possible entrance for rodents in the attic.
Continue watering mirleton plants during harvest.
Week 4
Prepare planting beds for pansies and strawberries.
Prune trees to remove dead wood.
Check camellias for signs of tea scale or other pests and water well for bloom development.
