Treat crepe myrtles, river birch, and ash trees with Di-Syston granular insecticide.
Check gardens daily
Harvest roses regularly.
Prune Spring flowering shrubs.
Plan and plant an herb garden.
Continue planting spring and summer vegetables.
Apply mulch.
Use pre-emergent herbicides before problems arise.
Inspect for termites.
Week 1
Plant caladiums in shady areas for summer-long color.
Sow centipede grass seed in new lawns.
Watch for powdery mildew which may show up on roses.
Week 2
Check strawberry plants for evidence of aphids and mites.
Set out eggplants after any danger of cool temps has passed.
Plant okra seeds in the vegetable garden.
Week 3
Transplant Vinca into sunny flower beds.
Look out for caterpillar damage on foliage everywhere.
Remove Azalea leaves that are affected by leaf gall disease.
Week 4
Check pear trees for fir blight and remove affected twigs and limbs.
Plant field peas in the vegetable patch.
Continue to use root stimulator fertilizer on new transplants.
