Pizza Kitchen satisfies with delicious casual dining
If you’re looking for quality food in a casual setting, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen is a good bet.
We found the menu to be varied, offering plenty of choices — and not just for pizza, but pasta dishes, po-boys, pita wraps, salads and appetizers as well.
The restaurant’s pizzas are baked in a special wood-burning oven, giving them an Old World style flavor, and featuring plenty of delicious toppings that, combined with a thin, crispy crust, make for a truly gourmet pizza.
A glance at the menu reveals a lengthy list – Sicilian, pepperoni, Roman, steak and portobello, super veggie ... but more on the pizzas later.
On our dinner visit, we tried the muffuletta ($7.50), which was a delicious take on the traditional sandwich, featuring mortadella, Genoa salami, ham and provolone cheese, accented by a tasty olive mix. Best of all, the muffuletta was pressed and toasted, giving it a great texture and even better flavor. It was served with a cold Caesar salad.
We also sampled the classic lasagna ($10.50). This dish was a good choice, featuring layers of Italian sausage, seasoned ground beef, marinara sauce, ricotta and mozzarella cheeses. It, too, was baked in the wood-burning oven, and has a wonderful flavor. The portion size seemed small, however, so don’t select this item if you’ve got a big appetite.
The chicken parmesan ($12.95) got high ratings from our party. A plate of penne pasta is topped with a lightly breaded and pan-fried chicken breast, then topped with a mixture of marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and a touch of pesto cream. The chicken was moist and tender, the sauce light, yet flavorful.
For those with smaller appetites, the restaurant offers several salads. We selected the blue cheese and roasted pecan ($4.50 small/$8.50 large).
It’s a very good combination of fresh, mixed salad greens and a creamy dressing — tart, crunchy and filling. The portion size is generous, too.
And of course, we sampled the pizza, which, in our case was the Greek style, and a wise choice.
This pie ($9.95), is a tasty blend of roma tomatoes, red onions, feta cheese, fresh spinach and calamata olives. For a $2 charge, we added chicken. The crust was thin and crunchy and the wood-fired flavor made this a winner.
Our party split two desserts — tiramisu ($5.50), which we rated as just average because it was more cake-y than moist, and the hot fudge brownie ($5.50), which wasa hit with the teens in our party and much better tasting.
