Tucked into a corner of the Jefferson Plaza shopping center, Café Americain is well-known to those who live in nearby Goodwood, Tara and Bocage neighborhoods, and many of us would probably like to keep it to ourselves. But that wouldn’t be fair, would it? Café Americain has been around for a while. Its menu has good variety, and the service is prompt and friendly.
The locals probably just say they’re going to eat at Bass Pro, but the official name of the restaurant inside Bass Pro Shops in Denham Springs is the World Famous Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant. A large selection of dishes and a pleasant atmosphere combine to make China Garden on Jefferson Highway a good choice for dining out with family or friends. Guests can choose from a variety of China’s regional dishes, including Cantonese, Szechuan, Peking and Hunan styles, as well as Japanese. The Caterie is a fun place to hang out and a popular spot for live music. As a dining destination, however, the food wasn’t always consistent. Several of the items we tried were very good, while a couple were only average. It’s been a few years, but those who remember the Oxbow Restaurant from its origins on La. 1 south of New Roads might have one fault to note since it moved: The view through the windows isn’t nearly as scenic as that of False River, which gave the eatery a reason for its name. Otherwise, there isn’t much to complain about. With a variety of po-boys, seafood plates, salads and kids’ meals, Sherwood Po-Boy in Walker is a nice, tasty alternative to the surrounding fast food establishments. Homemade and fresh are the key words here. Without doubt, Parrain’s is one of Baton Rouge’s “hot” seafood spots. The Perkins Road restaurant draws large crowds and consistently turns out exceptionally fine dishes. If you’re looking for quality food in a casual setting, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen is a good bet. We found the menu to be varied, offering plenty of choices — and not just for pizza, but pasta dishes, po-boys, pita wraps, salads and appetizers as well. |
