The Trey Yuen experience begins even before one’s inside the longtime Hammond restaurant. Lush gardens, a pagoda-like structure over the semi-circular front drive and a tranquil pond brimming with tropical fish and water lilies transition diners from the hurriedness of busy surrounding streets into a peaceful dining oasis.


The Grillroom at Perkins Rowe has a comfortable, yet elegant feel. Large modernistic paintings adorn the wood-covered walls, giving it the ambience of an upscale pub.


Even diners who aren’t very adventurous can appreciate a restaurant that takes a new spin on an old favorite. And La Mestiza in Prairieville is just such a place.


When one imagines the menu at a breakfast restaurant, the choices seem pretty limited. But we were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes available at Another Broken Egg Café.


Officially, the Philippines has 7,107 islands. It only seems like there is a 7,108th near the intersection of South Sherwood Forest and Coursey boulevards.


The menu says Copeland’s has a casually festive atmosphere, and on a recent Thursday night, there seemed to be a lot of celebrating going on, with big tables of families and friends, some marking graduations, filling the large dining room.


Baton Rouge is fortunate to have a number of neighborhood restaurants where the food would be considered gourmet quality in many countries. One such place is Mason’s Grill, the Jefferson Highway eatery that resembles an old-fashioned roadhouse.


If you work downtown, you’ve probably dined at Harrington’s. If not, you should give it a try.
