SugarFest to hold sweets competition
PORT ALLEN — The West Baton Rouge Historical Association is hosting a Sweets Contest Oct. 5 during the West Baton Rouge Museum’s annual SugarFest. Entry forms for the contest are available at the museum, 845 N. Jefferson Ave. in Port Allen.
Three sweets categories will be judged: cookies, cakes and candies. All entries must be submitted between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 5. The SugarFest starts at 11 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. For details on the contest, call (225) 336-2422.
Contest to feature holiday rice recipes
Uncle Ben’s rice is sponsoring the “Uncle Ben’s Ultimate Holiday Rice Recipe Contest.” One winner, chosen by celebrity party planner Preston Bailey, will win a trip to New York City for a consultation with Preston.
For every recipe submitted to the contest, Uncle Ben’s will donate $1 to Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network.
Contest rules are at http://www.unclebensgivesback.com. Holiday rice recipes must be submitted by Oct. 31.
Tabasco sponsoring firefighters’ event
The McIlhenny Co., makers of Tabasco products, is inviting firefighters nationwide to enter the “search for America’s hottest firehouse cook” competition. Firefighters are to submit original recipes for appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, side dishes or desserts to the Tabasco’s “Cook & Ladder” contest. Ten finalists will be selected and flown to New York City in early 2009 for a cook-off. Official entry forms and contest rules are posted at http://www.Tabasco.com. Deadline to enter is Oct. 31.
