The Red Stick Farmers Market, held from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday in downtown Baton Rouge on Fifth Street between Main and North streets, this Saturday puts an emphasis on cucumbers. Farmers will have a variety of cucumbers and, at 9 a.m., Louisiana Culinary Institute students will serve samples of recipes made with locally grown cucumber.
Also, LSU AgCenter Extension agent Robert Trawick, who writes a column in The Advocate, will share tips for growing late summer gardens.
The “Fresh from the Market” cooking show will feature guest chefs Leon Khampeson and Austin Duszynski of Tsunami Restaurant who will demonstrate Asian recipes using cucumbers.
The cooking show begins at 10 a.m. in the North Street seating area inside the Main Street Market in Galvez Garage, also located between Main and North streets in downtown Baton Rouge with an entrance on Fifth Street.
