Split work, costs among several hosts to make memorable party
Good news is meant to be shared, and Carol Anne Blitzer said no event gets her group of friends more party-inspired than news that one of their children is getting married. “We like to go in together to host the announcement party for the couple-to-be,” Blitzer added, “so we have lots of ideas on how to host fun wedding announcement parties.”

HOI AN, Vietnam — My little frying pan was on fire. Orange flames leaped high in the air with spectacular ferocity, inducing a vision of my burning down the Red Bridge Restaurant’s lovely, open-air, bamboo classroom. Happiness was the immediate appearance of an aide who grabbed the pan and whisked it and my singed rice pancake away. It was the morning’s only disaster.

Classic Bundt cakes appeal to one and all
The Minnesota Historical Society Press has done it again — published another fun look at vintage-inspired cooking from the Midwest. The first book in its series was “Hot Dish Heaven: Classic Casseroles From Midwest Kitchens” (reviewed in “Book Report” on Jan. 24). This time, it’s “Bundt Cake Bliss: Delicious Desserts From Midwest Kitchens” by caterer Susanna Short ($16.95, paperback).


The Fresh from the Market cooking show will feature Yasin and Elaine Muhaimin, of Yard Bird Farm, preparing chicken dishes that would be appropriate for Mother’s Day. The cooking show, hosted by chef Celeste Gill, starts at 10 a.m. in the North Street seating area inside the Main Street Market.


DENHAM SPRINGS — The open-air Livingston Parish Farmers’ Market, located in the New Covenant Church parking lot on U.S. 190 (Florida Boulevard) across from McDonald’s, is open from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.


COVINGTON — The Covington Farmers’ Market is open, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday. The market is located on the side lawn of City Hall, 609 N. Columbia St.
