POP QUIZ: Bobbi Zaunbrecher

Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Bobbi Zaunbrecher, 56, CEO of the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter, American Red Cross.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “My iPod is filled with doo wop, ’60s rock, swamp pop, blues and jazz.”

WHAT I’M READING: “In addition to Red Cross procedural memoranda? ‘Rising Tide’ by John M. Barry, ‘Founding Faith’ by Steven Waldman’ and ‘Sarah Morgan: A Civil War Diary’ by Charles East Sr. are on my nightstand.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “CNN, ‘House’ and my seasonal guilty pleasures, ‘True Blood’ and ‘Project Runway.’”

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “eBay; the thrill of bidding (and winning) is addictive.”

WHAT’S YOUR PASSION? “I always have some ‘home improvement’ project going, but I have to admit to having much more enthusiasm than skill.  And who is not amazed, excited about and completely in love with our Saints?”

BONUS QUESTION:
What special talents do you feel you bring to the table in leading the local American Red Cross? What’s your biggest challenge?
“The American Red Cross is in transition, away from disaster-based fundraising to forward-looking, year-round resource development. That’s a new way of thinking about the Red Cross for most Americans and for those of us in Louisiana, too. And it’s a challenge to change a collective mindset. But Louisiana has needed American Red Cross services far more often than a lot of other places — and far more money has come back here than has ever been raised here. I think that the people of Louisiana understand that very clearly. We all know what it’s like when a hurricane or a flood or a fire turns your whole world upside down.”
