POP QUIZ: Kyle Ferachi
Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.
QUIZ TAKER: Kyle A. Ferachi, 32 (33 on Nov. 19), partner with McGlinchey Stafford. “I practice in the labor and employment section and also do general litigation.”
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “At home, I listen to a mix of everything from Robert Earl Keen to Neil Diamond. When Kara (my wife) is not in the car, I usually listen to ESPN Radio, The Score 1210 AM or WJBO 1150 AM. When she’s in the car, we usually listen to ’90s on Nine (XM 9) or Pulse (XM 26). I’m also a fan of books on disc; any Stuart Woods novel will do.”
WHAT I’M READING: “I just finished Karen MacNeil’s ‘The Wine Bible’ and am now reading Michael Pollan’s ‘The Omnivore’s Dilemma.’”
WHAT I’M WATCHING: “Baseball right now. Usually Kara and I DVR ‘30 Rock,’ ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘Top Chef,’ and then watch them some time during the week.”
WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “I go to a few sites each day: www.batonrougetennis.com (for everything tennis in Baton Rouge); www.2theadvocate.com (to make sure I didn’t miss anything in the news); www.daily-report.com (for business news); and www.espn.com (to make sure I didn’t miss anything in sports).”
WHAT’S YOUR PASSION: “I’m involved with several organizations in Baton Rouge including the Baton Rouge Bar Association, Adult Literacy Advocates and the Greater Baton Rouge Community Tennis Association (GBRCTA). I strive to see each of these succeed. Most of my time lately has been dedicated to the GBRCTA, of which I am currently president. This summer the GBRCTA produced a video in conjunction with BREC for a United States Tennis Association (USTA) contest seeking the best tennis town in America. The video highlighted how diverse the game of tennis is in Baton Rouge, and the impact it has on our city. I am happy to say that Baton Rouge was named one of the top 10 tennis town in the United States! Outside of work and the nonprofit world, I enjoy tennis, golf and hanging out with Kara and our Pomeranian, Daisy.”
BONUS QUESTION:
How exciting is it for you to have tennis greats like Serena Williams, Billie Jean King, Anna Kournikova, Andy Roddick and Louisiana’s own Chanda Rubin coming to town in December to play in the ADVANTA WTT Smash Hits event?
“It is very exciting. The WTT Smash Hits event is a tremendous opportunity for the city of Baton Rouge. It’s not often that world-class athletes assemble in Baton Rouge for the purpose of raising money for national and local charities. Baton Rouge has an opportunity to showcase itself again as a destination city that is progressively looking forward to the future. The Pennington Family Foundation was instrumental in getting the event in Baton Rouge. It’s time for the city to step up and fill the PMAC for what promises to be an outstanding night of tennis in Baton Rouge.”
