Prayer Pager tips for churches interested in the ministry:
Make sure the pager has a toll-free number. Tell the provider you will be expecting a high
volume of calls and do not want to pay by the call. Talk about any options available to you after explaining how you want the pager to operate.
Make several copies of the instruction manual to distribute to each person given the pager. Some recipients might not be familiar with the operation of a pager.
When sending e-mails to notify congregation members of the pager number, be sure to
include specific instructions about how to call the toll-free number, such as waiting for the beeps and putting in your zip code. “Press the # key and hang-up.”
Include a sample prayer in the e-mail.

The Rev. Ginny Allen, left, minister of missions and spiritual growth for Broadmoor United Methodist Church, says technology meets spirituality in a new ministry of the church. When the prayer pager vibrates, Jerry Wilcox, a cancer patient, and his wife, Marlene, know someone is praying for them.
