Fifty Girl Scout Juniors from the Baton Rouge area recently earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest award a registered Girl Scout Junior can achieve.
Earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award reflects a Girl Scout’s commitment to helping others, improving her community and world and becoming the best she can be, Scouting officials said.
The new Bronze Award recipients include Anna Claire Capdevielle, Claire Charpentier, Erin Ellison, Emily Lester, Sara Panepinto, Emily Schaubhut, Elizabeth Sicard, and Kelly Turner, of Kenilworth Troop 8; Amber Anderson, India Evans, Ariana Robinson and Imari Simmons, of Kenilworth Troop 424; Christa Covington, Valerie Eller, Katarina Frank, Brooke Kean, Leah LeSage, and Kaylee Thibodeaux, of Central Troop 10; Sarah LeDuff and Meg Terrio, of Central Troop 36; Christine Bennett, Avery Keith, Kayla Lewis and Maggie Scardina, of Livingston Troop 96; Mieklan Bortnick, Megan Gates, Destiny Griffin, Aly Hughes, Holli Jackson, Madison Jackson, Mason Jackson, Hannah Johnson, Ashley Long, Lainey Parks, Megan Potts, Erin Roach and Jessie Schlaudecker, of Prairieville Troop 262; Antonia Asher, Micaela Binder, Emily Bourgeois, Emily Dunaway, Madison Lee, Aimee Lowe, Sarah Robert and Katy Wroten, of Prairieville Troop 444; Sheyane Anaya, Blayne Comeaux, Ciara Gibbs, Delilah Gremillion and Ja’leah Murphy, of Zachary Troop 95.

Kohl’s applauds volunteers
Kohl’s Department Stores has honored more than 2,000 kids nationwide for the good deeds they performed in their communities through volunteerism as part of the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program.
Honorees, including several from Louisiana, receive $50 gift cards and recognition certificates for making a difference in their communities.
Area honorees included Bree Hargrave, 6, of Lafayette, and James Twardowski, 17, of Mandeville.
Church gives scholarships
Greater First Church-Baptist, 4669 Groom Road in Baker, recently honored several college students and recent high school graduates during its Doretha Davis Memorial Scholarship Program.
Recent high school graduates honored included Kayla Gray and Antonya Kelley.
College students honored included Chantal Benjamin, Tedra Augustus and Keith Withers, who all attend Southern University; Samantha Sigers, Southeastern University; and Gabrielle Turner, LSU.
The honorees received certificates and cash awards.
Also, Kelley, the daughter of the Rev. Anthony Kelley, the church’s pastor, was awarded a $21,000 scholarship. She will attend Southern University.
4-H elects ’09-’10 officers
4-H’ers elected state 4-H Executive Committee officers and 14 regional representatives in June.
Another four were honored as 2009-2010 delegates to the National 4-H Conference.
The Louisiana 4-H officers elected were Brandon Guillory, Calcasieu Parish, president; Wesley Hayes, Allen Parish, vice president; Brittany Babineaux, Ascension Parish, secretary/treasurer; Gabe Stelly, St. Landry Parish, historian/reporter; and Jonathan Thibeaux, Lafayette Parish, parliamentarian.
Other members of the Louisiana 4-H Executive Committee, elected to represent the seven regions of the state, were Victoria Arnold, Sabine Parish; Summer Alsadi, West Feliciana Parish; Dylan Blanchard, Assumption Parish; Keagon Bourque, West Feliciana Parish; Nathaniel Burton, Orleans Parish; Conrad Cable, Union Parish; Taylor Chargiois, Calcasieu Parish; Emily Cooper, Morehouse Parish; Austin Fontenot, Evangeline Parish; Darrell Griffin, St. Helena Parish; Jesse Lange, Vermilion Parish; Daniel McFarland, Caddo Parish; Kristen Morrison, Vernon Parish; Jade Pilcher, Caldwell Parish; Remy Roper, St. James Parish; Kory Ryder, Allen Parish; Arielle Sutton, Ascension Parish; and Cordarius Winzer, Claiborne Parish.
National 4-H Conference delegates selected for 2009-2010 were Maggie Brakeville, Bossier Parish; Cody Hood, Assumption Parish; Shelbi Jean Graft, West Baton Rouge Parish; and Christine Schexnayder, St. James Parish.
