Our Lady of the Lake
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, 5000 Hennessy Blvd., will hold the following events:
- The 2009 Miracle Mansion raffle fundraiser to benefit Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital will have an open house from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 10, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 11 and 12 at the grand prize mansion located in Greystone Country Club. Tickets can be purchased for $100 at the open house or by calling (225) 757-2663 or by visiting http://www.ololchildrens.com.
Ticket purchase deadline is noon July 14 with the drawing set for July 14 on WBRZ. Tickets purchased by Tuesday will be eligible to win early bird prizes.
- “Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You?” a free community seminar, will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday in the OLOL Auditorium. Seating is limited. Register online at http://www.

Lane Regional
Lane Regional Medical Center, 6300 Main St., Zachary, will have Scale Down, a free orientation session on the HMR Weight Management Program, at 5:30 p.m. Monday and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Scale Down Center, 6300 Main St., Building G, located behind the hospital’s fitness trail. Seating is limited, and registration is required by calling (225) 658-4463.
Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society, 10528 Kentshire Court, will offer the following event or opportunity this week:
- “Look Good … Feel Better,” a free public service program to help women undergoing cancer treatment learn to cope with the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Earl K. Long Medical Center, 5825 Airline Highway, second-floor Infusion Center. Call Tina or Cheryl at (225) 385-3914.
- The society is looking for volunteers to drive patients to and from their cancer treatments. Opportunities can be as little as one afternoon a month. For more information, call (225) 767-7197 or (800) ACS-2345.
St. Jude workout
Curves, 3207 Lavey Lane, Baker, will host a Workout for St. Jude fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the club. It will feature an Exercise-A-Thon and a silent auction to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The public can participate for a $10 donation. Participants can raise funds by obtaining sponsors and asking them to pledge or make a donation for the 30-minute workout. Auction bidding will close at 6 p.m. Monday. Grief Recovery
The Grief Recovery Center, 4919 Jamestown Ave., Suite 101, will offer the following events or opportunities this week:
- A support group will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the center.
- A bereavement support group will meet from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Place Retirement Community, 333 Lee Drive, Convocation Room in the Main Building.
- Grief and Loss of Aging support group will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the center. Topics will include caring for aging parents, facing illness and death of parents, living alone, retirement and more.
- A bereavement support group for adults will meet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospital, 1125 W. La. 30, Gonzales.
- Speakers are available upon request for the following topics: Dealing with Grief, Healthy Grieving and Helping Children and Families Cope with Grief.
All support groups are free and confidential.
