POP QUIZ: Chuck Simmons
Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.
QUIZ TAKER: Chuck Simmons, 55, president/ Scout executive, Istrouma Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “Always the blues but specifically right now, Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s ‘10 Days Out/Blues from the Backroads.’”
WHAT I’M READING: “Just started ‘The Shack.’”
WHAT I’M WATCHING: “News channels, sports and ‘House’ most regularly.”
WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET):“News sites and then any sites that give me info about LSU athletics.”
BONUS QUESTION:
Were you a Boy Scout growing up? If so, why/how did you get involved with Scouting?
“I was a Cub Scout (Mom was my Den leader) and then a Boy Scout for a little time but I got caught up in baseball and football.
“After I was married, my sister-in-law worked for the Girl Scouts in Nashville and she suggested I interview for an entry-level position with the Boy Scouts. I instantly became such a believer in Scouting’s value to our society, because it develops young people in ways no other organization can, that here I am 26 years later.”
