Youth Calendar for May 11-15, 2009
THIS WEEK
STRINGS AND VOICES: String students at Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School, 1020 Marlbrook, will perform in the commons area of the school at 4 p.m. Tuesday with the choir performing at 6 p.m.
‘FAMILY FEUD’: Teams drawn from students from Glasgow Middle School, Scotlandville Pre-Engineering Academy and Woodlawn Middle school plus celebrity guests — Baton Rouge Metro Council members Allison Cascio and Ulysses Addison, and East Baton Rouge Parish School Superintendant Charlotte Placide — will compete in “Baton Rouge Family Feud” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Baton Rouge Community College Magnolia Performing Arts Theater, 5310 Florida Blvd. The contest is sponsored by the Baton Rouge Community College Foundation, in conjunction with the BRCC Learning Resource Center. The event is $5 for middle school and BRCC students; $10 for the general public.
LIFE LESSONS WOVEN WITH HILARITY: A production of “Seussical Jr.” by Forest Heights Academy fifth-graders will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the school, 7447 Sumrall Drive. Students in Pre-K through second grade will dance in the show with the older students acting in it.
CELEBRATE ART: An art exhibit by Talented Visual Art students from Brookstown, Brownfields, BRCVPA, Buchanan, Forest Heights and Parkview elementary schools will be on display at the State Archives Building, 3851 Essen Lane, through Saturday.
JAZZ COMBO: The 40-member Greater Baton Rouge Children’s Chorus and the 19-member Baton Rouge Jazz Ensemble will present “Come Sunday: A Community Jazz Celebration” at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, 8470 Goodwood Blvd.
