Louisiana Public Broadcasting changed its digital lineup of channels Jan. 1.
LPB and LPB-HD began simulcasting on LPB Digital Channel 1 when PBS began broadcasting all of its programming in high definition. Cable viewers will still be able to get these channels on their current locations. For instance, in Baton Rouge, LPB will continue on cable Channel 12, and LPB-HD will continue to run on digital cable Channel 712.
In addition, LPB2 will now be available around the state on the LPB Digital Feed. LPB2 features public affairs, how-to shows and LPB such programs as “Louisiana: The State We’re In,” “Louisiana Public Square,” “A Taste of Louisiana with Chef John Folse” and “Ms. Lucy’s Classic Cajun Cooking and Culture.”
LPB2 will also have special broadcasts of LPB documentaries and music specials starting at 6 p.m. every Saturday with Cinema Francais, ending the evening with a classic French movie at 10 p.m. The movies on Cinema Francais premiere at 10 p.m. every Sunday and repeat on Saturday. Viewers should note that LPB has packaged the movies with opening and closing segments and study guides, so the lengths of entire programs vary.
LPB3 will continue the Create lineup of lifestyle shows including cooking, travel, woodwork, painting and sewing.
Viewers can get free access to all of this programming over the air. If viewers use an antenna and have a digital tuner on their television, they should rescan the channels on the channel guide and the new lineup should appear. It will be listed under the number of the LPB analog channel. For instance, in Baton Rouge the lineup will be 27.1, 27.2 and 27.3. In Lafayette and Shreveport, it will be 24.1, 24.2 and 24.3. Channels should be rescanned every few weeks to make sure the digital lineup is up to date.
Viewers with questions can visit the LPB Web site or call (800) 272-8161, ext. 4274 or 4276.
