Houmas House survived Hurricane Gustav with minimum damages which have already been repaired. Now the River Region Art Association is seeking artists for the October “Awesome Art in Autumn Gardens Arts and Culture Festival” there.

Four youth divisions are being offered divided by medium and age: drawing and painting for ages 6-11 and 12-17.

Adults may submit their work in painting, drawing, photography and three-dimensional art for the Oct. 11-12 event.

Take-in for all art is 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Houmas House Plantation, site of the festival.

The judged show is offering more than $1,500 in prize money. Entry forms are available online at http://www.artgumbo.org.

The awards reception will be 3:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Houmas House Pavilion.

The antebellum estate is located at 40136 Highway 942 in Darrow.

Eagle Scouts honored

Members of three different area Boy Scout troops are featured today for having earned the rank of Eagle, Boy Scouting’s highest rank.
Fewer than 2 percent of Scouts in the United States earn their Eagle award. Scouts advance to Eagle by earning 21 merit badges, of which 12 — in such areas as finance, family life, law, astronomy, chemistry and nature — are mandatory to become an Eagle.
A Scout must organize an Eagle service project that demonstrates leadership skills.

The Eagle Scouts are:
