POP QUIZ: Carol Gikas
Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.
QUIZ TAKER:
Carol Gikas, 57, executive director and president of the Louisiana Art & Science Museum.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Dave Matthews Band — “My daughter is in college and she gives me a lot of CDs. The ones I’ve really liked are Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band and even a band called Vampire Weekend. I like anything that’s good.”
WHAT I’M WATCHING:
“America’s Got Talent” — “I don’t watch a lot of TV. What I have seen more than a couple times this summer, though, is ‘America’s Got Talent.’ I think that is kind of fun. I guess it’s the variety and the whole fact that anyone out there can try out and make it, no matter their age or talent.”
WHAT I’M READING:
“A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini — “I’ve gotten really interested in the Middle East since the war that’s going on. I had read ‘The Kite Runner’ (also written by Hosseini) which totally captivated me. I think he’s such a visual writer.”
WHERE I’M SURFING (WEB SITE):
WUnderground.com — “I’m kind of a weather junkie. I check the weather a lot.”
BONUS QUESTION:
If you could bring to the museum any exhibit based solely on what you would like to see, what would that exhibit be?
“I’ve been kind of looking at and have developed an interest in an artist living in New York, but he’s from Mamou, La., named Keith Sonnier. He’s a light artist. His gallery installations are nothing but colored light.”
