For some, there's nothing better than roughing it in the great outdoors. For others, running water, refrigerators and stoves are a must. For those who fall in the middle, a cabin may be the perfect solution.
It's all different now because of the Internet.
When that case of cabin fever strikes, travelers now can go online and see photos of their cabin, and sometimes even take a virtual tour before hitting the road.
But once you pick your cabin destination, you've got a few decisions to make before heading out.
Will four walls and a bed do? Or do you need five bedrooms and an indoor pool? Chances are you can find both.
Several Web sites are devoted to nothing but cabins. Try www.cabins.com or www.cabinresorts.com, where visitors can chose from the most requested cabins on the site.
Not far away
Florida is not only great for a beach vacation; it's also a nice place to rent a cabin.
Check out www.visitflorida.com for a list of dozens of Florida state parks with cabins.
Adventures Unlimited, north of Milton, Fla., is a great place to rent a cabin, said Ashley Chisholm with E.W. Bullock Associates, the company that represents Pensacola tourism.
Located on 88 wooded acres at the confluence of Wolfe Creek and Coldwater Creek, Adventures Unlimited has several cabins, including the Egret and Fox Den, which cost $79 each per night in season. The Riverside 2 cabin rents for $149 per night in season.
New cottages are being added as well; the Osprey and Palmetto Cottages are $149 per night in season, and the Sarracenia and Tupelo Cottages are the same price.
Wait a few weeks, however, and "in season" will be over.
