STYLE FILE: Ty Larkins
In this week’s Style File, where we catch people out and about, we came across a well-dressed man.
NAME: Ty Larkins, Baton Rouge
AGE: 39
OCCUPATION: Interior designer
Tell us about what you’re wearing.
“Dark grey business suit paired with a tailored shirt and lavender check tie for just a splash of color and texture for added dimension in an effort to avoid what might otherwise resonate as overly conservative.”
Who most influences your style?
“Oddly enough, I take most of my cues from concepts embodied within interior design. The same principles that tend to work well in interior design also apply to fashion.”
Your house is on fire and you can grab only one thing out of your closet. What would it be?
“My designer-series Levis jeans. I can dress them up or down.”
What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a fashion item? What was it? Do you still have it?
“Overall, I attempt to purchase quality clothing which is not unreasonably expensive. I find that most fashion items which tend to be overpriced can be attributed to the brand name. But, to answer your question, I recently spent about $220 for a custom-made dress shirt that fits my physique like a glove. I think this was quite a splurge for a dress shirt.”
What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever gotten?
“Like most people, I used to fall victim to the mistake of often buying my clothes too big for my body. I see men doing this all the time especially when it comes to their dress shirts and pants. This is a no-no. It makes you look sloppy and unkempt. Once I began the practice of purchasing clothing that was as close to my actual body size without being tight, my clothes looked custom made although they were off the rack.”
