Men take to the runway at fundraiser fashion show
It’s not often that men in Baton Rouge get to strut their stuff on the fashion runway, but when they do, oh what a show it is.
At Sunday’s luncheon-fundraiser for the Community Association for the Welfare of School Children, more than 20 guys revealed their inner models for the group’s “Men On Pause” fashion and style show.
Some, like “Tha Hip Hop Doc,” better known as Dr. Rani G. Whitfield, proved they may have what it takes to be “America’s Next Top Model” or a contender on “So You Think You Can Dance.”
As the old school Motown hits from groups like the Temptations, the Four Tops and the Isley Brothers pumped through the ballroom at the Holiday Inn Select, the men modeled everything from formalwear — United Way CEO Howard Taylor looked oh so debonair in his white tux — to swimming suits.
A well-muscled Corles Rachel sizzled in his black tank and blue plaid trunks. When he tossed the tank, more cameras flashed than at Paris on a red carpet.
But the award for best performance has to go to Leon Fletcher. Dressed all in black, except for his flaming red tie, Fletcher glided on to the stage to Marvin Gaye’s 1982 classic “Sexual Healing.” At one point Fletcher loosened his tie, jumped off the runway and showed off his smooth-as-silk dance moves with a woman in the crowd. Can you say hot?
Now we know why fans were given out as party favors.
