Spring garden show
From plants to planters, artwork to furniture, see it all at the sixth annual Baton Rouge Spring Garden Show.
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30.
WHERE: LSU’s John M. Parker Coliseum on Highland Road.
ADMISSION: $5 for adults; free for children 12 and under.
DETAILS: In addition to a wide variety of vendors, local garden societies will be on hand with information about their specialties and plants for sale. Representatives from the LSU AgCenter will conduct a plant health clinic to help homeowners diagnose problems and to answer questions. Youngsters can plant seeds, play with insects and learn about animals. LSU AgCenter faculty members will present a series of one-hour talks during the show.

Chili cook off
While you’re at the garden show (see above), why not drop in next door for good food and good fun at the Louisiana State Chili Cook Off.
WHEN: 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 29.
WHERE: LSU 4-H Mini Barn.
ADMISSION: Free for visitors; various fees to enter the competition.

DETAILS: Sponsored by the Audubon Kiwanis Club of Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Head Injury Association, all proceeds will benefit projects of the two groups. Competitors are expected from Illinois, Colorado, Texas, Florida and Tennessee, as well as across Louisiana. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., visitors can vote in the People’s Choice category. Chili, jambalaya and other food and snacks will be available for purchase.
V-Day Baton Rouge
Join the movement to end violence against women and girls by attending this production of playwright Eve Ensler’s award-winning play “The Vagina Monologues.”
WHEN: 7 p.m. Saturday.
WHERE: The Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, 8470 Goodwood Blvd.
TICKETS: Sold at the door. General admission, $15; students, $10.
DETAILS: The goal of this show is to stop violence against women and girls by increasing awareness, and to raise funds for the Baton Rouge Battered Women’s Program.
Save the world
“You can save the world and you can begin right here.” That’s the theme Louisiana native Ann McBride Norton and her husband, Edward M. Norton, will explore in a fascinating program.
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 31.
WHERE: Episcopal High School’s Greer Center, 3200 Woodland Ridge Blvd.
ADMISSION: Free.
DETAILS: The couple will speak about their work in remote regions, such as the Himalayan foothills of Yunan Province, China, and the jungles of Indonesia. They will also offer practical suggestions and simple actions to sustain the local environment. The lecture is a part of Episcopal’s Cornerstones Speakers Series.
