Artwork in Bay St. Louis
On the second Saturday of each month, Old Town Bay St. Louis comes alive with art for the Second Saturday Art Walk.
From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Main Street’s shops and art galleries are home to the event, packed with open houses, guest artists, refreshments, food and music. It was a staple before Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005 and remains one today.
The event is free.

A testament to the strength, resiliency of Biloxi’s people
The Biloxi Lighthouse has stood the test of time and stood up to Mother Nature’s wrath on more than one occasion.
Completed in 1848, it was the first cast-iron tower constructed in the South. It’s also in the middle of a four-lane highway that runs along the coast, something uncommon for lighthouses.
Mary Reynolds became the lighthouse’s first female keeper in 1854. To this day, the Biloxi Lighthouse has been kept by female keepers for more years than any other lighthouse in the United States.
The lighthouse is closed for tours. However, visitors can view this testament to the fortitude residents of the coast have exhibited in the wake of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
Do: Troll the different markets along the coast
Across the Mississippi coast, from Waveland to Ocean Springs, there are several local markets offering everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to used knick-knacks. Many are held year-round, so it’s still not too late to visit one, or several, for that matter.
- Flea Market at Menge: Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 27. Interstate 10 at Menge Avenue, Pass Christian.
- Ocean Springs Fresh Market: Saturdays through Dec. 26. Depot Parking Lot, downtown Ocean Springs.
- Pass Christian Market in the Park: Saturdays through Dec. 26. War Memorial Park, U.S. 90, Pass Christian.
- Waveland Farmers Market: Wednesdays and Saturdays through Sept. 26. 301 Coleman Ave., Waveland.
- Moss Point Market: Saturdays through Sept. 26. Riverbend Location, Miss. 613, Moss Point.
