Sports in art
Merging sports into art can serve as a way for fans of one to appreciate the other. Those two pieces of culture combine at The American Sport Art Museum and Archives.
On the campus of the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala., the museum is dedicated to preserving sports history, art and literature. A combination of more than 1,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, posters, photography and assemblages await visitors.
Admission is free. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hot air balloon extravaganza
Hot air balloons will fill the skies above Foley in June when the fifth annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival arrives.
The festival will take place Father’s Day weekend, June 19-21, on the festival grounds on U.S. 98 west of Gulf Shores Parkway. The event is free.

Do: Take a horseback ride in Fairhope
While visiting south Alabama, how about taking a horseback ride at Oak Hollow Farm?
Oak Hollow, in Fairhope, offers one-hour guided horseback rides across the 300-acre farm. There are nature trails to discover along the way.
Oak Hollow also features a barn with a stage, playground and fishing pond. Weddings and other special events are also held there.

Hear: The sounds of BayFest 2009
It may not be happening until early October, but it’s not too early to plan on attending Mobile’s BayFest 2009.
The 15th annual event will take place Oct. 2-4 in the streets of downtown Mobile. More than 100 artists are expected to perform on nine stages. The Steve Miller Band has already been booked and will perform Oct. 3 on the AT&T/IP Casino Stage.
Tickets for the event will be available online on Aug. 1. Those who purchase their tickets online between then and Sept. 1 will be entered in a drawing to win a “meet-and-greet” with an artist of their choice.
Three-day passes are $35, a one-day pass is $25 and only available at the gate, and admission is free for children 12 and younger with a paid adult.
