Take a break in Perdido Key
If you’ve ever driven along the coast from Gulf Shores, Ala., to Pensacola, Fla., chances are you’ve driven through Perdido Key.
A 247-acre barrier island sitting on the Gulf of Mexico, Perdido Key is just across the Florida state line and a short drive from Pensacola. This, as well as other barrier islands, protects the mainland from the negative effects of storms.
One of Perdido Key’s attractions is Perdido Key State Park, just 15 miles southwest of Pensacola, at 12301 Gulf Beach Highway.
The park features white, sandy beaches for swimming, sunbathing or fishing. It also features picnic tables for families to enjoy.
The park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset. Admission is $2 per vehicle. For more information, call (850) 492-1595.
