Paragon offers travelers good option when staying in La.
If you haven’t yet considered a trip to the middle of the state, now might be the time. Paragon Casino, in Marksville near Alexandria, offers lots of amenities and entertainment only a short drive from home.
While there, visitors can enjoy a concert in the new Mari Showroom, take part in off-track racehorse gambling, get pampered at Spa La Vie and more. If that doesn’t get your attention, then a couple of big events might.
n Strongman competition: This weekend, on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., the casino hosts the second annual Strongman Competition in the Mari Showroom. Spectators will be able to watch competitors lift, pull and squat their way through the event.
Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the casino. Prices are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets for children 12 and younger are $5 each.

Tunica Pow Wow: One way to experience not only entertainment but education and culture is to attend the Tunica Pow Wow, set for May 15-17. The event will be on the grounds of the Tunica-Biloxi Reservation on La. 1 in Marksville, but in case of inclement weather, the show will move to the casino’s Mari Showroom.
The unique Peruvian group Wayanay Inka – which plays music using bamboo panpipes, flutes and more – will perform at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.
