Florida’s “Lost Island” awaits visitors with beaches, parks, shopping and golf.

Perdido Key bridges the gap between Pensacola and Alabama and offers year-round events and activities.

While the sugar-white beaches speak for themselves, the area also features several parks, both on and off the beach. Separating the mainland from the Gulf of Mexico is The Big Lagoon State Park, home to birds, beaches, boating and more. Saltwater marshes and pine flatwoods help paint the park’s landscape. In fact, more than 60 percent of Perdido Key is made up of parks and preserves.

Want to take a break from playing around in the area’s parks and beaches? Just hit the shops and fairways for something a little different.

Perdido Key features shops and boutiques, with everything from antiques and jewelry to flowers and more. Rugs and kitchen furnishings can also be bought there, if there’s enough space in your car to get them home.

If shopping isn’t your cup of tea, hit the links of Perdido Key Bay Club. The Bill Bergin-designed golf course is open to the public every day. In addition to the course, the club features a driving range, putting green, chipping green, greenside bunker and fairway bunker. The course is at One Doug Ford Drive. For more information, call (850) 492-1223.

Or, you can tee off at Lost Key Golf Club. The club is home to an Arnold Palmer signature course. Lost Key is at 625 Lost Key Drive. For more information, call (888) 2LOSTKEY.

Then there’s the Flora-Bama.

The popular hangout, located near the Florida-Alabama state line and called “the last great American road house,” hosts several events throughout the year. For more information, call (850) 492-0611 or (251) 980-5118.
