Things are jumping in Rayne

A frog derby, frog jumping contest, fried frog legs. You name it, it’s on the schedule for the 37th annual Rayne Frog Festival Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 12-14.
The festival takes place under the 20,000 square-foot festival pavilion just off Interstate 10 at Rayne.
The rides actually open Wednesday night at 5 p.m., when Miller Amusements offers $1.50 ride night.
On Thursday night, Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie performs starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be $3 for adults and children will be admitted free.
Official opening ceremonies take place at 6 p.m. Friday on the stage under the pavilion.
Gate admission for the weekend is $1 for children younger than 12. Adult admission is $5, Friday and Saturday until 3 p.m.; after 3 p.m., it’s $7.
Look for all types of food and drink, an arts and crafts show, live entertainment throughout the three days, a poker run, golf tournament, diaper derby, frog racing and jumping contests, frog derby and a grand parade at 3 p.m.

Symposium in N.O.
The symposium Congo Square: Crossroads of the Afro-Atlantic World will run 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Jazz & Heritage Center, 1225 N. Rampart St., New Orleans.
The free symposium is being presented by the Jazz & Heritage Foundation as part of its Tom Dent Congo Square lecture series.
Presenters include: Ned Sublette, author of The World That Made New Orleans; Yale scholar Robert Farris Thompson, Alex LaSalle of Alma Moyo, Freddi Evans, Connie Zeanah Atkinson, Luther Gray and Herreast Harrison.
