Young, black and gifted. That is how Baton Rouge recording artists Lil’ Josh and Ernest — Josh Lewis and Ernest Stewart — see themselves.

“And don’t forget handsome,  too,” Stewart said Saturday, while the pair lounged in a Southern University Laboratory School hallway during a break from filming their first music video.

Surrounded by bright lights, massive movie cameras and dozens of extras, managers and hangers-on, the pair seemed relaxed as they spoke about their song “Jigga Juice,” an ode to a drink concoction supposedly known to kick-start the dance known as “jigging,” or “the jig.”

And they also talked about themselves.

“Yes, yes, we’re definitely handsome, too,” Lewis replied.

And who would question them?

The pair spent the better part of the afternoon flirting with dozens of young models while waiting for the video’s co-star recording artist, Diamond, to arrive.

And when she did arrive,  wearing bright red knee-high boots and a white T-shirt that read, “I’m a star,” it was all business. Lewis, 16, and Stewart, 18, both in baggy jeans and crisp white sneakers, transformed themselves into Lil’ Josh and Ernest for the video’s classroom scene.

In the clip, model Britney Hurst plays a high-school teacher who catches Lil’ Josh passing a note to one of the young models dressed up as a high-school student.

Meanwhile, Ernest, staying true to his teenage disposition, engages another young model in a private conversation during class. But for this scene, the director wanted a close-up of Ernest. He ordered the young woman of Ernest’s video affections out of the picture, leaving the rapper talking to an empty desk with just a textbook on top.

Ernest balked.

“You better bring that girl back, I can’t be just talking to myself,” he protested.

“You better talk to that dictionary, it’ll help you with your lyrics,” an extra shouted.
