Baton Rouge Blues Week set with busy music lineup
The annual Baton Rouge Blues Week returns this week with nine days of events, including the return of the Baton Rouge Blues Festival.
Blues Week activities begin Saturday with the Slim Harpo Awards. This year’s honorees are radio host Nick Spitzer and musicians Marcia Ball, Lil’ Ray Neal and the late Silas Hogan. Music will be provided by One Mo Time featuring Floyd Patterson.
The week’s highlights include Walter “Wolfman” Washington’s Sunday performance at downtown’s Lafayette Park; Tuesday’s Baton Rouge Blues Society jam with Chris Thomas King, Luther Kent and Kenny Acosta and classic Baton Rouge blues artists Henry Gray, Rudy Richard and James Johnson; Grammy-winning zydeco musician Terrance Simien’s Wednesday performance at the Manship Theatre; Friday’s Tabby Thomas Blues Revue at Galvez Plaza downtown; New Orleans singer-pianist Henry Butler’s April 25 concert at the Manship Theatre; and the Baton Rouge Blues Festival, April 26 between the River Center and Old State Capitol.
