This summer is one of the biggest superhero summers ever in Hollywood.

Heroes are popping up in all shapes and sizes.

There is a metal-encased billionaire, a rampaging hulk, a dark knight, a demon demon-hunter and this weekend, an alcoholic.

“Hancock” is the story of Hancock (Will Smith), an alcoholic superhero with anger management issues.

Unlike most heroes, the crowd doesn’t adore Hancock’s escapades. In fact, they hate him.

Sure, they’re glad to see him when someone is shooting at them, but after he saves their life and destroys most of their personal property, he isn’t quite as welcome.

Fortunately, after being saved by Hancock, PR guy Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) decides to help change the wayward superhero’s image.

Besides a few cheesy CGI affects at the beginning of the film, I enjoyed “Hancock.” Smith as the hero everyone loves to hate was hysterical. There aren’t many actors who can pull off the humor and action required for this type of movie.

Bateman was also fantastic in his non-fighting sidekick role. He was not only believable, but he was also really, really funny.

Even though Charlize Theron didn’t seem to have a pivotal part in the trailers, her role as Mary Embrey really tied this movie together. She was elegant, beautiful and even kind of scary.

I like that in a woman

All in all, Hancock was a refreshing take on being a superhero.

I’m not saying it’s something you want to let the kids watch.

The PG-13 rating is well-deserved. However, from an adult perspective, it was one of the best superhero movies so far this summer.
