One could only imagine what was going through the mind of Frank Mir after Brock Lesnar defeated Randy Couture in the Ultmate Fighting Championship’s UFC 91 on Saturday, Nov. 15. Mir defeated Lesnar by submission in his last fight, but could be facing Lesnar again for the title if he defeats Antonio Nogueira. Some don’t think it’s fair that Lesnar got the title shot instead of Nogueira, but like it or not, it’s all business.
The interim title belt holder is now a title that has magically disappeared since Lesnar walked right past Nogueira for a title shot and now is the heavyweight champion with only four professional fights to his credit.
Main Event:
Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar
Once again we might have seen the last fight for Randy “The Natural” Couture, and even though he lost, he can still go out with a sense of pride. On paper, Couture was sure to be demolished by the much younger, heavier, stronger and better wrestler, Brock Lesnar. Couture, at the age of 45, held his own in the first round and might have been favored on scorecards. Couture landed plenty of jabs and even hung with Lesnar in the clinch. We were all waiting for Lesnar to make a rookie mistake and for Couture to capitalize, but it never happened. Couture did more damage than anyone else has to Lesnar, and he did this just five years short of the age of 50.
Lesnar once again silenced his critics in impressive fashion. Lesnar took some decent shots from the UFC Hall of Famer, but never appeared to be in danger of losing.
Lesnar will now face the winner of the Frank Mir vs. Antonio Nogueira match.

Main Card:
Kenny Florian vs. Joe Stevenson
The fight that was picked by many to be the “fight of the night” lasted less than one round. Florian came out aggressive and after a warning by Herb Dean, the referee, for grabbing the fence, the fight seemed to be over in a flash. Florian looked impressive in all facets of the game, especially in his jiu-jitsu.
Florian might have gotten a little overemotional with his domination over Stevenson. In his victory speech, Florian praised current champion B.J. Penn by calling him the master and then went on to say it’s time to kill that master. Florian will have to sit and wait while Penn faces George St. Pierre for the welterweight division.
