In all my days of watching fights I cannot remember seeing a more exciting start to a night of fights. Chris Pham began the night with a knockout that will be on his highlight reel for the rest of his career. That first fight lasted only nine seconds.
The action didn’t stop there for the 18 fights Saturday night. Out of the 18 fights only two went to a decision with the theme of the night being Technical Knockouts and Triangle Chokes.
Fight of the Night went to Scott Bear vs. Daniel Peneta, with each fighter dominating one round and Bear pulling out the victory in the second round via Triangle Choke. Another candidate for Fight of the Night were heavyweights Andrew “King Kong” Staples vs. Kendrick Watkins.
Seth Clifton vs. Jason Harvey was also a nominee for Fight of the Night, with both fighters dominating one round each and Seth Clifton sealing the victory by TKO. Seth Clifton unfortunately also took home the award for ugliest shorts of the night.
It was a great Saturday night, though I don’t think this will outrank Saturday nights in Tiger Stadium anytime soon, but Mixed Martial Arts is definitely catching on and becoming a favorite source of entertainment in south Louisiana.
Fight Results:
Main Event:
J.C. Pennington vs. Tonny Canales (LFC Lightweight Title)
Pennington just straight dominated, and it was that simple. Pennington is now new LFC lightweight champion.
Pennington defeats Canales via TKO (Strikes) in the first round.
Main Card:
Scott Bear vs. Daniel Peneta (LFC Featherweight Title)
Peneta won the first round by one of the biggest margins I have ever seen. Bear showed the heart of a champion by composing himself between rounds and coming up with a new game plan for the second round. Bear traded with Peneta, took him down and choked Peneta out. Bear is now new LFC featherweight champion.
